History

It was early one morning in the spring of 1980 that God commissioned Pastor Wright to begin a ministry in Durham, North Carolina. In a state of submission God proceeded to give him specific instructions that would make this mission a success. One year later in May 1981 in a partially abandoned school building the first service was held.

As Pastor Wright prayed, God put a burden in his heart for souls. Since its inception Greater Emmanuel has witnessed the miracles of God. Many souls have received the baptism in Jesus Name and filled with the Holy Ghost. Over 30 ministries and auxiliaries have been established, a 6 acre campus was purchased and now includes 400 seat sanctuary, two duplexes, educational wing, an Hispanic Church and a 3.8 million dollar Family Life Enrichment Center– equipped with full regulation size gym, theater, banquet facility, skating rink, walking track, weight room, beauty salon, bookstore, administrative offices, classrooms and conference room space.

With the grace of God, dedicated people and the unshakable faith of Pastor and First Lady Wright, Greater Emmanuel has risen to a level of prominence in the city of Durham. Emmanuel is our name for truly, GOD IS WITH US
